Dry Needling

Picture
Dry needling is a technique used in physical therapy to alleviate pain and improve mobility by targeting trigger points (tight bands) in muscles. Many people have experienced that one nagging area where a tight muscle just doesn't seem to want to "let go". That is where dry needling can be helpful!

During the procedure, thin, solid needles are inserted into the skin and underlying tissues at the site of the trigger points. While the exact mechanism behind how it works is not definitively known, we do have good research to support the results. As a growing technique, more research is being conducted every year. If you would like to learn more please reach out to me via phone or email.

Dry needling can be effective in treating a variety of musculoskeletal conditions, such as back pain, neck pain, a variety of tendonitis type injuries, and hip, knee or shoulder pain.

It is normal for the first question to be, does it hurt? The answer to this varies by individual and by treatment. I can be honest and say that it is not always comfortable, but I also tell people that I have had very few cases where patient's haven't asked me to use this technique a second, third, and fourth time!
