Spine Care
Neck and back pain are some of the most common injuries in the general population and treated frequently in physical therapy. Many people I have worked with start to feel like their pain is something that they will just have to live with forever. Fortunately, most individuals are surprised to discover that this doesn't have to be the case. In almost every situation, we are able to work together to find some pattern of lifestyle changes, corrective exercises, and manual therapy that can give people significant relief and help them better manage their neck and back pain. The key to success is starting with a thorough assessment. The selected functional movement assessment (SFMA) is critical here. This assessment tool starts with large movement patterns and drills down determine the cause of why you are moving in a certain manner.
One example of this is when people have a stiff neck they assume they need to stretch more, or if they can't touch their toes that they must have tight hamstrings. Almost always, these interventions will make you worse rather than better. A few simple tests within the SFMA will tease out WHY you can't touch your toes or look over your shoulder while driving.
So let's chat more about your neck or back pain and figure out how to get you back to feeling better and the life you want to live!
